The Consorci d’Atenció Primària de Salut Barcelona Esquerra (CAPSBE) is a 5-storey practice situated in the centre of Barcelona. Responsible for the welfare of over 30,000 residents, its staff consists of family doctors, nurses, community nurses, a social worker and administrative staff, plus specialist doctors who work there once a week. The practice is fully computerised and offers good examples of integrated services.
Over a five-day visit, three participants on the CfCC and PORT programme can learn about the work of the Consorci d’Atenció Primària de Salut Barcelona Esquerra (CAPSBE). During their stay they will attend lectures on the Spanish health care system, electronic medical records, digital communication with patients, and the care of chronically ill and multimorbid patients. They will spend one day in practice seeing all kinds of patients, one day on home visits to chronically ill patients, and one day with a homecare nurse. At the end of the work shadowing there will be time to discuss their experiences with CAPSBE health care professionals.
A good command of English is required for a stay at CAPSBE. A knowledge of Spanish or Catalan would also be an asset.
